Case Study 13: Retail Clothing Warehouse Management Implementation

A. The Company Industry:

Retail clothing and apparel with multiple distribution centers supporting e-commerce fulfillment and store replenishment across regional markets.

B. What needed to be done:

The clothing retailer required implementation of advanced warehousing features in Dynamics 365 F&O to optimize distribution center operations including wave planning for batch picking, mobile device-directed putaway and picking, location directives for size and color variants, cycle counting programs, and shipment consolidation for multi-order parcel shipments. The solution needed to support high-velocity order processing during peak seasons while maintaining inventory accuracy and reducing fulfillment errors for the fashion-sensitive product line.

C. How Dynatuners accomplished the deliverable:

Dynatuners implemented the Warehouse Management System (WMS) module configuring warehouse layouts with location types, zones, and picking paths optimized for apparel characteristics including hanging garments, folded merchandise, and packaged accessories. Location directives were established using product dimensions (style, color, size) and inventory characteristics (fast-moving, seasonal, clearance) to optimize picking efficiency and space utilization. Wave processing was configured to batch sales orders by shipping method and destination zone enabling efficient pick path optimization and workload balancing across warehouse staff. Mobile device menu items were configured for receiving, putaway, picking, packing, cycle counting, and inventory movement operations with validation rules to ensure accuracy. Work templates were designed for different order profiles including single-item ecommerce orders using pick-and-pack stations, multi-item orders using cart picking, and store replenishment using pallet building. Cycle counting programs were established using ABC classification with high-value and fast-moving items counted more frequently than slower inventory. Integration with parcel carrier systems was implemented using shipping carrier interface enabling rate shopping, label printing, and tracking number capture. Load building functionality was configured to consolidate multiple orders into truckload shipments for store deliveries optimizing transportation costs. The team provided extensive training on mobile device operations and developed standard operating procedures tailored to apparel fulfillment processes, resulting in improved order accuracy and reduced fulfillment cycle time.
