Case Study 12: Food Processing Equipment Management & Inventory Visibility

A. The Company Industry:

Food processing and packaging producing consumer packaged goods with stringent food safety requirements and high-volume production operations.

B. What needed to be done:

The food processor required implementation of the Equipment module for managing processing machinery maintenance, calibration schedules, and validation documentation required by food safety regulations. Equipment versioning capabilities were needed to track configuration changes and part replacements maintaining compliance audit trails. Additionally, the organization needed to implement Dataverse integration for field service management and Inventory Visibility service to provide real-time inventory positions across manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and co-packer locations for better demand fulfillment and production scheduling.

C. How Dynatuners accomplished the deliverable:

Dynatuners configured the Asset Management module (Equipment module) to maintain comprehensive records for processing equipment including mixers, fillers, packaging lines, and quality control instruments. Equipment hierarchies were established reflecting production lines and departments with preventive maintenance schedules configured based on operating hours, production runs, and calendar intervals. Equipment versioning was implemented using custom X++ development to track configuration changes, calibration certificates, and component replacements creating audit trails required for Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification audits. Integration with Dataverse enabled Field Service capabilities for maintenance work order creation, technician scheduling, and mobile maintenance execution with completed work orders updating equipment maintenance history in Dynamics 365 F&O. Inventory Visibility service was deployed as an Azure microservice providing real-time inventory aggregation across on-hand, in-transit, allocated, and available-to promise quantities. Integration with the service utilized APIs to publish inventory changes from Dynamics 365 F&O and query real-time availability during order promising processes. Custom allocation strategies were configured supporting reservation hierarchies for food safety lot control ensuring first-expired-first-out (FEFO) fulfillment. The solution provided production planners with accurate real-time inventory positions eliminating manual inquiry processes and improving order fulfillment accuracy.
