Case Study 4: Plastic Packaging Company EDI ECommerce Integration
A. The Company Industry:
Plastic packaging manufacturing serving retail and e-commerce customers with high-volume order processing requirements.
B. What needed to be done:
The packaging manufacturer needed to establish automated Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) connectivity with major e-commerce platforms including Amazon Vendor Central, Walmart, and other retail partners. The solution required processing purchase orders (EDI 850), generating advance ship notices (EDI 856), creating invoices (EDI 810), and handling inventory synchronization without manual intervention. The existing manual order entry process created fulfillment delays, invoicing errors, and inventory discrepancies that strained customer relationships.
C. How Dynatuners accomplished the deliverable:
Dynatuners designed and implemented a comprehensive EDI integration framework connecting Dynamics 365 F&O with third-party EDI translation services using Azure Logic Apps and custom X++ extensions. The solution automatically consumed inbound EDI 850 purchase orders from Amazon and other partners, validated data against customer master records and item mappings, and created sales orders in Dynamics 365 with customer-specific pricing and shipping requirements. Outbound processes were automated to generate EDI 856 advance ship notices upon warehouse shipment confirmation and EDI 810 invoices upon posting, transmitting documents back to trading partners within required timeframes. Custom mapping tables were developed to translate partner-specific item numbers, UPCs, and packaging configurations to internal SKUs. The team implemented error handling and notification workflows to flag exceptions requiring manual review, and configured batch jobs to process EDI transactions during off-peak hours to optimize system performance while meeting partner SLA requirements.
