ERP upgrade and performance tuning for a nationwide food warehouse industry

The end client is a nationwide design-build service to the food warehouse industries, with more than 30 years of operating in the market.

This company was looking to upgrade its ERP system from Dynamics AX 2009 to AX 2012 R3 as a step before upgrading to Dynamics 365.

The client needed a full-scoped solution in terms of coda/data and performance over a weekend, given the fact that they couldn’t afford a five-day downtime in its operations.

Moreover, having spent hundreds of dollars in previous build-in processes that were not successful led the company to have an unstable Dynamics AX environment with over 120 issues that needed to be tackled.

After engaging for 3 months with this client on performance tuning, several testing upgrades, and UAT, we were able to lower down the time to 3 days. And after 6 months, we were able to get into the 48-hour timeframe.

In this way, our team was able to attack the two main issues – the downtime for the upgrade and the code/data issues in just 24 hours.

We helped this client using advanced performance tuning approaches, fixing the standard Microsoft code, solving the issues with their customization migration, and using new innovative techniques for migrating most of the system’s heaviest tables.

In the long run, we were able to lower down the time from 5 days to 24 hours. And, overall we solved the code issues, and the resulting target system is working as expected with no issues after heavy user testing.
